About Our Family

My name is Shannon,  mom to Skye and Zowie.  I am a single homeschool mother, a childcare provider, a writer, a scrapbooker and an amateur photographer. I am also a life-long learner. My greatest joys are my daughters, and I wish them the best in life.

Our family is going through many changes at this time.

Zowie is 15 and has been homeschooled for just over nine years. She has filled out an application to join the Upward Bound program at the university, which will provide her with many opportunities including extra math and science, help with college applications and test prep (including fees), and the opportunity to visit many colleges both in and out of state. She may also join the Onward program at the same university in a year or two. She is qualified, but the youngest student so far has been 17. We are seeing if there is anything we can do to get her in sooner. If so, I will graduate her. After all, she will then be a college student. Zowie dreams of being a journalist and a clothing designer, and is also interested in parapsychology. I am very proud of Zowie’s ambition and excitement over education.

Skye was homeschooled for just over nine years as well. Now that she is 18, she has decided to go to Job Corps. She is going for CNA. Skye is doing well, and I am very proud of her. She lives on campus, so we do not see her every day anymore. We call, email and keep in contact through MySpace. We are always happy to see her when she visits.

I.W. is my nephew. He is 10, and stays at my home when his mom has classes or work. He is here six days a week, so I help with some of his schooling as well. He studies pretty hard here, so I try to let him play outside most days. Right now, he is learning about black history and putting together some dinosaurs.

We have four cats: The boys are Rowan, Tigerr (Yes, with two r’s) and Zander, and Pixie is our girl. The boys are 4 1/2 years in human years, and Pixie is about 9 months.

Rowan is black, and a good size cat. Not fat at all. He enjoys playing and being petted and cuddling. He believes that my bedroom is actually his, and played fetch and peek-a-boo when he was younger. I belong to Rowan.

Tigerr a tiger cat (obviously) and is very loving. However, he is also a big bully. He had food sensitivities when he was young, and I think we are having a recurreance of the problem. We are trying him on different foods. Zowie belongs to Tigerr.

Zander is ‘the boss’. You go to him, he rarely goes to you. He is the biggest of the cats, but is not fat. Skye belongs to Zander, and he misses her a lot. He is waiting for her to finish school and to get her own place so that he can go live with her.

Pixie belongs to Rowan. We chose her because Zander and Tigerr will both leave when their moms have their own homes. Pixie will stay with Rowan. She is the only one who has not been fixed, as I intend for her to have at least one litter (depending on how big the litter is) to expand our little family. She came from our friend Katie’s cat Spot, who was mated with my sisters cat Rosta. She has a sister (Salem) and a brother (Moose). Salem will stay with her mom, and Moose will be going to live with another friend.

The three boys came to us when they were about 6 weeks old from Kentucky. They rode in a car all the way to Maine to come to us. They belong to my cousins cat, and have siblings.

Welcome to our homeschool blog.

Shannon
