Updating The Homeschool Mom of 2

I am going to be updating the website and main blog over the next month, and will let you know when this process is complete. At that time, I will provide you with a link to the main blog, as I am going to close this one down.

The main blog has a multitude of information for the homeschool family, as does the website.

Medical Identity Theft

Pennie over at the Empty Nest blog had an post that is of interest to all of us on her blog on January 8th. It refers to medical identity theft, and tells us the basic events regarding her 6 year old granddaughter. You can read the blog here: http://empty-nest.contentquake.com/2009/01/08/medical-identity-theft/#comment-5544. I thought that this was important enough to pass along to everyone. I couldn’t afford to pay off medical debts placed upon me in this way, and I don’t think that anyone else could either. Shannon

Thanksgiving Break

We are on a break from our typical homeschool schedule this week, but we are still busy learning:

  • We are learning about budgeting and money matters. We don’t have money to buy gifts for people, because we are having serious money issues this year. Paying bills comes first, and we are still hoping to be able to pay them all this month and next.
  • Cooking/baking lessons will be abundant on both Wednesday and Thursday, with most of what we are making being made from scratch.
  • Crafting: Including ornament making, candle making, tied fleece projects and more.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Single Mothers Homeschooling Part 1: Before You Begin

And so it Begins: The Race to Make as Many Homemade Gifts as Possible as a Homeschool Family

And what does this teach?

  • Creativity; Inventiveness.
  • Frugality.
  • Love.
  • How to make do with what you have.
  • Reducing waste, reusing materials; Recycling.

We have a few tied fleece children’s throw blankets that we no longer need, so we are going to reuse the materials to make tied fleece pillows for my nieces. I also have a whole box of fluff that has been taking up space for a few years.

Right now, my nephew is un-tying the blankets. Then we will wash them well, dry them, and take the lint brush to them. After that, we will cut one down to size to make a couple of pillows and, hopefully, a couple of smaller blankets. The two smaller blankets will be made into bigger pillows for the two older nieces. We will see what all we can do. We may not be able to do the blankets. If not, we can make two bigger blankets for the girls.

I will post pictures when the projects are finished. Maybe some of you would enjoy the project as well.

Homeschool History Project

My nephew and I are studying The Wild West and Pioneer Days. We are going to be creating a newspaper from that time period. We may actually do more than one, as there are quite a few topics that we want to touch upon.

A Homeschool Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I wanted to sahre an experience that I had a few years back with my daughters as young teens.

I had been teaching them to cook for quite a few years, and over time, they learned to make a complete meal.

One Thanksgiving, they told me not to worry. They were making Thanksgiving dinner for us and our company. I let them have at it. There were homemade placemats, turkey and all of the fixings. They were so proud of themselves, and I was proud of them as well.

The meal went over well, and everyone had a good time.
